NJSIAA Prep A Highlights

For the Prep A Championship the Lawrenceville School girls won their tenth straight team title.

Lawrenceville's top scoring category was the individual sprints where they saw 53 of their 119 points, add in their 4x400m relay victory and make it 63. They won seven of the 11 events competed at the championships that day.

Rhianna Scott won the 400m with a 60.34, Jourdan Wright the 55m dash at 7.51, Sofia Swindell won the 55m hurdles crossing at 8.48 and then added another gold for the 200m with a 26.03, and finally to close out the track events the 4x400m squad clocked a 4:17.43.

In the field Lawrenceville's attack didn't slow down with victories during the high jump, Gabrieanne Chery 5-0, and the pole vault, Audrey Cheng 11-2.

The Seton Hall Prep boys brought back the title after last winning in 2020, this is their third title in the past ten years. It came off a convincing points lead of 109 points to 65 over second ranked Peddie School.

Their Prep A victory was heavily decided in the sprints as well but the scoring did not stop there. 

Overall Seton Hall Prep earned five gold medal events and saw two senior athletes become double winners.

Xavier Donaldson brought home two after winning the 55m dash at 6.50 and the 200m with a 22.60. That 22.60 is the quickest 200m at the Bubble track this season. Ryan Matulonis clocked a 50.19 to win the 400m dash and led the 55m hurdles final with a 7.74. 

Nicholas DeVita led them to the fifth gold medal winning the 800m while running 1:57.81.

NJISAA Prep B Highlights

For Prep B the Montclair Kimberley Academy girls made it two championships in a row with their 73 to 66 victory over second place Villa Walsh Academy. 

MKA had a balanced scoring attach and won four events between the track and field. Junior sprinter Morgan Lee won the 200m dash running 28.01, Kellen Ievers led the Prep B shot put with her mark of 29-5, freshman Mila Huang won the pole vault clearing 10-0. And to close out the track events their 4x400m team led all Prep B teams with a time of 4:32.53.

Newark Academy boys also made it two straight Prep B stat titles with their dominant 132 point victory featuring a massive pull of points from the sprints and distance squads and two wins in the field.

On the distance side Luka Opacic Rodrigues brought home the 1600m win running 4:35.31 leading a 1-2-3 finish with teammates Matthew Malloy and Ethan Garcia in second and third.  Malloy doubled back adding on the 3200m victory later in the meet at 10:10.48!

Bryce Rhodeman cleared 5-10 to lead the high jump and Matthew Herbert was the only athlete to clear the pole vault with a height of 13-7, NJ No. 6 so far this year.

Tomas Pesquin and Lavarra Hines were second and third in the 55m hurdles, Bryce Rhodeman and Jelani Dean third and fourth in the 55m dash, Jaeden Henry and Kayin Davis second and fourth during the 400m dash. Opacic Rodrigues and Ethan Garcia nj second and fifth in the 800m. Henry, Davis, and Dean went 2-3-4 for major points in the 200m as well. Ishaan Solanki earned second in the shot put.

Then they closed out a successful day on the track with a 4x400m victory clocking 3:45.24. The relay team made up of Kayin Davis, Jaeden Henry, Ethan Garcia, and Luka Opacic Rodrigues.
