Elizabeth Sprint Star Greg McQueen Signs With Rutgers

Greg McQueen of Elizabeth, one of the state's biggest track and field stars, made his college choice official on Tuesday afternoon during a signing ceremony at his school.

The winner is.......Rutgers University!!

McQueen, who won the 200-meter dash at the Meet of Champions last month, also took official visits to Howard and the University of  Charlotte, and an unofficial visit to LSU. He also received interest from TCU, Maryland, and Hampton.

McQueen, a multiple All-State and All-American selection, is the third Meet of Champions winner that Rutgers has landed in its current recruiting class. Rutgers has also locked up Fitzroy Ledgister of St. Peter's Prep (football and track and field), who won the 55 dash at the M of C last month, and Chris Serrao of East Brunswick, who won Meet of Champions titles last spring in the 110m HH, and last month in the 55m hurdles.

During his remarkable career at Elizabeth, McQueen has piled up several huge victories, dropped lots of red hot times, and he helped lead the Minutemen to multiple county championships, the 4x400 title at the Meet of Champions last spring, and to All-American finishes in the 4x400, Swedish Relay, and the Super Sprint Medley Relay at the National Championships last summer.

At the Union County Championships this past winter McQueen, made history by becoming the first athlete to win four golds at a single meet. He won the 400 in 50.38, the 55 dash in a school record 6.50, the 200 in 22.25, and he split 51.5 on the winning 4x400 relay. McQueen just missed breaking meet record of 22.23 that he set in the 200 on the much faster Ocean Breeze track in 2020.

McQueen, who also four golds at the outdoor county meet last spring (100, 200, 400 and 4x400), has now captured an astounding eight individual gold medals (indoors and outdoors combined) at the county championships in his career! And he has one more county meet to go this spring!

McQueen's PR's are 6.50 for 55m, 10.83 for 100m, 21.63 for 200m, and 49.20 for 400m. He has also run several sub 49 splits in the 400,  including a sizzling 47.69 anchor when Elizabeth finished third in the Swedish Relay at the National Championships.
