The Cherokee girls distance crew strikes back!!!
One day after being knocked out of the top spot in the national rankings in the distance medley relay, the Chiefs regained its place as the fastest team in the country by dropping a 12:12.72 to win the DMR by nearly 41 seconds over Kingsway at the NJSIAA Group 4 Relays on Saturday morning at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
Cherokee's foursome consisted of Oklahoma-bound Nicole Clifford (3:39.9 for 1200m), Bucknell-bound Alison Cooke (60.8 for 400m), junior Kelsey Niglio (2:18.4), and freshman Megan Niglio (5:13.4 for 1600m).
That same quartet ran 12:30.94 in the DMR at the Bennett Center on Dec. 29, which stood as the No. 1 time in the nation this season until Kent Place (12:25.17) and Union Catholic (12:28.50) finished 1-2 at the NJSIAA Non-Public A Relays on Friday.
The Cherokee girls are now ranked No. 1 in the nation in both the DMR (12:12.72) and the 4x800 (9:23.85), and are are US No. 2 in the sprint medley relay (4:18.22). How awesome is that!!!!
