East Brunswick Star Chris Serrao Has Committed To Rutgers

Chris Serrao of East Brunswick, one of the top track and field recruits in New Jersey, has made his college decision.

The winner is.....Rutgers University!

Serrao rewrote the record book as a junior last spring when he put together the greatest high hurdle season in Middlesex County History.

At the Meet of Champions last June at Frank Jost Field in South Plainfield, Serrao got a rocket start and ran clean over the 10 barriers on his way to winning the 110-meter hurdles in a 13.93, which broke the Middlesex County record of 13.95 that Christian Boateng of Old Bridge set when he won the M of C title in 2011.

Serrao lowered his GMC record in the high hurdles when he ran 13.84, the fastest time of the season in NJ and No. 5 in the U.S., to finish first at the East Coast Championships, and then capped off his historic hurdle season by placing sixth in 13.97 at the Outdoor Nationals Championships to earn All-American honors.

Serrao also won both the 110h and the 400 hurdles at the GMC Championships and at the Central Jersey, Group 4 Championships, and he ran a personal best of 55.77, No. 17 in the state for the season, in the 400 hurdles when he placed third at the State Group 4 Championships.
