Marco Langon of Bridgewater-Raritan, one of the top distance running recruits in the country, announced his college plans on Monday afternoon.
The winner is Villanova University!
Langon is the second star runner from the Skyland Conference in the last two days to commit to Villanova as he joins Jack Tavaglione of Voorhees in the current recruiting class for the Wildcats.
Langon, undefeated this season, is having a historic campaign on the trails this fall.
He ran 15:23 at the Roxbury Invitational, No. 2 all-time at Horseshoe Lake Park, ran a course record 15:09 at the Bernie Magee Memorial at Oak Ridge Park, went 15:30 at the Shore Coaches Invitational, No. 16 in Holmdel Park history and No. 1 in Somerset County history, dropped a 12:13 at the Manhattan Invitational, No. 12 in Van Cortlandt Park history, and he blasted a course record 15:36 at the Skyland Conference Championships at Phillipsburg.
On the track, Langon, ran a PR of 4:09.47 in the 1600m when he was fourth at the Meet of Champions last spring, and he ran his 3,200m PR of 9:03.50 when he placed third at the State Group 4 meet.
"I trust the next chapter because I know the author,'' Langon wrote in an Instagram post. "Thank you to the people who are always in my corner, and an even bigger thank you to the ones who doubted me.''
Villanova, which placed third at the Big East XC Championships this past weekend, has landed several big time NJ distance stars over the last few years. Langon and Tavaglione will join a Nova roster that's filled with distance running stars from NJ, including Liam Murphy, (Allentown High), Jack Jennings (Mendham), and Sean Dolan (Hopewell Valley).
