Jack Tavaglione of Voorhees, one of the state's top distance runners, announced his college plans on Sunday.
The winner is Villanova University!!!
After an undefeated cross-country campaign as a junior last year, Tavaglione is having a sensational senior season on the trails for Voorhees this fall.
He captured the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex Championship in 16:27, placed second at the Skyland Conference Championships in 16:05, and he ran a personal Holmdel Park best of 16:01 at the Shore Coaches Invitational, which makes him the third fastest runner in school history on the historic state championship layout.
On the track, Tavaglione owns personal bests of 4:27.15 for 1,600 and 9:23.88 for 3,200.
"I'm so excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Villanova University,'' Tavaglione wrote on his Instagram account. "I'd like to thank my family, friends, teachers, coaches, and all of the athletes and coaches that I've had the pleasure of getting to know during this process - for all of the support along the way.''
At Nova, Tavaglione will join a roster that's filled with distance running stars from NJ, including Liam Murphy (Allentown High), Jack Jennings (Mendham), and Sean Dolan (Hopewell Valley). Tavaglione is the second Voorhees distance runner to commit to Nova in the past year. Last year, it was current Nova freshman Emma McGill who announced her intention to become a Wildcat.
