Charlotte Bednar of Lawrenceville, one of the greatest distance runners in NJ history and one of the top recruits in the country, announced on Instagram on Thursday night that she has committed to the University of Notre Dame.
"I am so excited to announce my commitment to run cross-country and track at the University of Notre Dame,'' Bednar wrote on her IG post. "Go Irish.''
During her legendary high school career, Bednar has put together one of the best resumes by a distance runner in recent U.S. history.
On the cross-country trails, Bednar is a two-time All-American (12th at NXN in 2018 and 8th in 2019), and she owns the NJ course record at Holmdel Park with the 17:21 she ran last November.
Bednar has been just as impressive on the track. Last spring, she shattered two state records by running 15:52.10 for 5,000m in April, which is No. 5 all-time in U.S. history, and 9:59.34 in the 3,200m last May. Bednar also has a one-mile PR of 4:52.30.
The only runners in U.S. history to run faster in the 5K than Bednar are Jenna Hutchins (15:34.47), Mary Cain (15:45.46), Emily Sisson (15:48.91), and Cayla Hatton (15:50.32).
