Jackson Barna of Ridge, one of the top distance running recruits in the nation, announced on his Instagram account that he has committed to Georgetown University.
"I am beyond excited, and proud to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at Georgetown University,'' Barna wrote. "I'd like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for helping me reach this point.''
The Hoyas are getting a great one!
Barna opened his XC season on Sept. 17 by dropping a course record bomb of 14:41 at Ocean County Park!!! That's the second fastest XC time ever run by a NJ high school runner. Only the legendary Edward Cheserek of Set. Benedict's Prep (14:11 at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield in 2011) has run faster than Barna.
Last spring, Barna had a huge season on the track. He ran 8:52.00 to win the 3,200 at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions, threw down a 4:09.64 DMR split, and ran 14:35 for 5K.
