Colts Neck - DeJa Vu? Well it certainly seemed like it Saturday morning at Buck Mills Park. The girls race went off first. At the first mile mark it was still a pack of about 6 runners including RBC's best Molly McNamara and Michelle Capozzi. Coming back around the baseball field towards the 2 mile mark it was all RBC with McNamara leading Capozzi by just a few steps. As the crowd piled at the finish line waiting to see how would round the final turn first, it was McNamara once again putting a gap on teammate Capozzi for the 2nd consecutive week. McNamara and Capozzi finish with ease in 18:42 and 19:01 respectively. RBC's other runners didn't quite fair so well, as RBC's 3-4-5 runners finish way back in the pack and Toms River North capitalized and took the team title behind Freshman runner Karah O'Halloran. Toms River North won the team title 97 to 136 over 2nd place Howell.
In the boys race it was a little more fuzzy. For much of the race it looked as though any of 4 maybe 5 runners could take the race. But once again coming around the baseball field at the 2 mile mark, the race began to take form and narrow the front pack down to 3, with Mazzaccaro, Mike O'Dowd (2nd to Mazzaccaro at Monmouth Counties) and Joe Kotran the Ocean County champion. All 3 battled hard around the last big loop. Rounding the final turn it was O'Dowd leading Mazzaccaro and Kotran who was trailing both. Down to the final 75 yards Mazzaccaro had an extra gear left and used it to out duel O'Dowd to the finish line. Mazzaccaro finished in 15:53 to O'Dowd's 15:54 and Kotran in 3rd in 15:58. CBA won the team crown led by Mazzaccaro and Dan Bailey who finshed in 5th place with a time of 16:06. CBA finished 60 points ahead of Toms River north 49-109.
