Newark Academy rode a 1-2-3 finish to the boys title, and the Union girls, led by individual champion Cassidy Kidd, finished first at Saturday's 43rd Bill Blaskopf Newark Academy Invitational in Livingston.
On the boys side, sophomore Matthew Malloy finished first in 17:41 to lead the impressive frontal assault for Newark Academy. Junior Andy Nagpal (17:52) and senior Jack Ryan completed the 1-2-3 finish that ignited Newark Academy to a 20-54 victory over runner-up Oratory.
Newark Academy, which averaged 18:01, also received a a fifth place finish from junior Maximilian Gorbaty, and a ninth-place finish from freshman Luka Opacic Rodrigues (18:32)
In the girls race, Kidd, a very talented freshman, stopped the clock at 20:43, 29 seconds ahead of senior Kavya Nivarthy of Newark Academy, second in 21:12.
Kidd's victory sparked a 1-5-6-10-15 finish for the Farmers, who won the team title with 35 points. Newark Academy defeated Mount St. Mary on a sixth-runner tie-breaker to place second. Newark Academy and Mount St. Mary each finished with 44 points.
Union's top five were Kidd, freshman Ana Figueirero, fifth in 22:52, senior Angelica DeStefano, sixth in 23:10, Shania Nuzman, 10th in 23:55, and senior Maria Silva was 15th in 25:09.
