The GSTC High School Fall Showcase hosted by the Garden State Track Club is back for their second meet of the five meet series. The 5Ks on the track are back but a 3K has also been added to the schedule.
There are a number of out of state stars joining New Jersey athletes entered into this one from NY, PA, CT, and more. It should be noted this is an unattached club meet held on a track and not a cross country meet, all high schools mentioned are just for reference, our notes will focus on the New Jersey entries.
Boys 3K: The 3K kicks off the action where New Jersey is represented by Pompton Lake's Nathan Armstrong, we recently spoke with Armstrong after his 16:36 5K win at the Season Opener Invite.
Girls 5K Heat 1: The first heat of the girls 5K sees five NJ entries. Sophie Steidle, a state Group 1 Champ on the track, recorded an 18:09.30 at the first GSTC meet, Maria Laverde, Laurel Kurtz, Casey Walter, and Anna Umlauf.
Girls 5K Heat 2: Heat 2 brings a stacked field of girls distance running talent: Northeast Regional and Prep State cross country champ Charlotte Bednar will open her fall season on the track in this race as the third seed. Joining Bednar is Camryn Wennersten who finished eighth in the opening GSTC meet with a 17:53.55 and Miranda Lorsbach who was fifth back in September running 17:18.68. These New Jersey talents take on the likes of 2018 Foot Locker Nationals champ Sydney Masciarelli (CT), PA State Champ Jenna Mulhern, and more.
Boys 5K Heat 1: The boys first 5K heat has three NJ boys in the mix. Jacob Cobb, Zach Rhoda who is coming off a strong junior cross country season, and Owen Marish take on 15 out of state athletes.
Boys 5K Heat 2: Middlesex and Gloucester County champions Ben Godish and Brady Shute are seeded sixth and seventh. Bobby Hymans of Ramapo, who just had a great cross country opener at Garret Mountain running 16:19 is seeded 13th. Jack Napoli, Josh Forrest, and James Ptack will wear the number 17 through 19 stickers. They take on 15 very talented runners from PA, NY, VT, MA, DE, and VA.
