A year ago at the 2019 Essex County Championships the West Orange girls went off and scored 127 points en route to the team title. They held a 58 point lead over second place Montclair and third ranked Columbia.
Bringing in 20 of those points individually was class of 2020 senior Abigail Vital. She won the 400m hurdle title to kick off the meet with a time of 62.80, her career PR and NJ#20 that season. She followed that up leading the 100m hurdle prelims at 14.77 and then charging ahead in the finals to win at 14.67 both with no wind recorded. She finished the meet listed on the second place 4x400m squad which ran 3:58.08. You can see the full West Orange team performance report here.
The 100m hurdle win was her third on the season to that point, she also went on to win the North 1 Group 4 Sectional, finished second at Groups, and then ran a PR of 14.08 to finish fourth at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions. She was the top returner from that race and the top returner in the state heading into the now cancelled 2020 outdoor season. Vital has committed to St. Peter's University.
