CBA, Westfield, Ridgewood Earn Race Wins at Bowdoin

The Christian Brothers Academy boys, Westfield boys, and Ridgewood girls all secured Varsity team wins. Shaw Powell and Camryn Wennersten led their teams to victory. All this and more took place Saturday in Wappingers Falls, NY at Bowdoin Park. 

Year in year out the Bowdoin XC Classic seems to be the first major test for many of the top New Jersey teams, a chance to get a look at the home of the Nike Cross Nationals Northeast Regional. 

Christian Brothers Academy took Varsity II with a score of 46 (1-3-11-14-17) averaging 16:48, the fastest on the day. Shaw Powell started them off hot with the individual win at 16:13, he was followed by Troy Hill in third at 16:21, Tim Cahill 11th, 17:04, Nolan Kus 14th, 17:09, Ben Santos 17th, 17:13. 

Boys Merge | Girls Merge

New Jersey fared well overall representing four of the top five finishers. Along with Powell and Hill, Martin Riddell of Haddonfield ran fourth at 16:24, Jackson Braddock of South Regional fifth at 16:38. 

Riddell led Haddonfield to a fourth place finish scoring 163 (4-10-15-61-73) with a 17:23 average, they were sixth in the merge and third among New Jersey squads. 

The Westfield impressed with their winning performance in Varsity I with a total of 70 points (3-8-15-20-24) and averaging 17:19, finishing ahead of Xavier HS at 117. For Westfield their senior Will Loggia was the low stick in third at 16:54, he was followed by Kevin Yucetepe, ninth 17:06, Jack Maranz, 16th 17:23, Will McGlynn, 21st 17:31, and Zachary Spergel, 25th 17:39. 

Also in the top five for New Jersey in boys Varsity II was Dylan Fritz of Voorhees in fourht at 16:59 and Edwin Klanke of St. Peter's Prep in fifth running 17:00. 

In the Girls Varsity II race, a competition that matched up to be a New Jersey showcase, Ridgewood showed why they've earned that NJ#1 ranking this season. The girls won with room to spare at 44 points, ahead of NJ#2 Holmdel scoring 84 points and NJ#8 Haddonfield 90 points. 

The Ridgewood girls were flying with a 20:05 average, their sophomore star Camryn Wennersten ran a race winning 18:42 and her team brought in their top five before the 15th finisher of the race! Lilly Williams ninth at 20:10, Olivia Shattuck 11th 20:20, AnnaMarie Tretola 13th 20:36, and Sarah Policano 14th 20:38. 

Holmdel was led by Emily Levonas in eighth clocking 20:05 and Haddonfield by Sarah Naticchia in fourth at 19:44.  

Ridgewood, Holmdel, and Haddonfield held onto the top three spots of the meet when considering the merge.
