On Friday night in Galloway, NJ Stockton University hosted the Osprey XC High School Invite for the fifth year. We saw some familiar faces out front with Sebastien Reed and Maddy Kopec both repeating as varsity winners.
Reed Makes it Three Straight, Ocean City Splits Eight Seconds
Pitman senior Sebastien Reed dusted the field clocking a winning time of 15:16 and holding around a 49 second lead. This is the third straight year Reed, the defending Group 1 State Champion, has won the Osprey Invitational.
After Reed Woodstown's Xavier Seals brought home second place at 16:05 before a wave of Ocean City running scored third through seventh!
Ocean City, led by Anthony Conte in third at 16:14, scored a low 25 points and split a minuscule eight seconds between their scoring five! Averaging 16:18 the rest of their top finishers included Max Kelly fourth at 16:16, Tyler Greene 16:18, Luke Kramer 16:20, and Owen Ritti 16:22.
Ocean City last won this meet in 2016, and have three Osprey Invite wins overall having also won back in 2014. Their JV team has found success as well, last season at this meet their Junior squad scored a perfect meet with 15 points sweeping one through five, this year they made another great run at it but had to settle for the JV win at 18 points after Washington Twp broke up their four and five.
In the varsity race behind Ocean City's 25 point win was Washington Twp second at 98 and Jackson Memorial third at 125.
Led by Kopec, Red Bank Catholic Gets the W
Maddy Kopec won her second straight Osprey Invitational running 18:35, this was also her second win on the 2019 season having won her opener at the Cherokee Challenge.
This performance led her Red Bank Catholic squad to a 33 point victory averaging 19:23 with a 1-3-8-9-12 (13-23) score line. Their star freshman Cate DeSousa making another impressive run finishing third at 19:01. Gioanna Curci, 19:41, Danielle Hayes, 19:43, and Elena Dimitri, 19:57, completing their top five.
Early on in the finish chute there was also a hot start by Shawnee who brought in three girls in the top five. They were led by senior Isabella Turner in second running 18:49 with senior Claire Hauser, 19:07, and freshman Kate Ruona, 19:17, coming through in fourth and fifth.
Shawnee finished second as a team with 70 points, Southern Regional third at 79.
