Morris Catholic Wins NPB, Bishop Eustace Fifth Straight

In dominating fashion the Morris Catholic girls won their first title since 1995 when they won two in a row. The boys championship was a back and forth affair between Bishop Eustace Prep and Mater Dei Prep where Eustace came out on top 68 to 65. 

For Bishop Eustace this is their fifth straight title and sixth overall. While Bishop Eustace found plenty of points in the distance events Mater Dei had plenty of success in the sprints, and both had key finishers in the field. 

Bishop Eustace senior Connor Melko brought home two gold medals winning the 1600m at 4:28.47 and 3200m 10:30.49. Sean May won the 800m at 2:03.39 and Joshua Mo threw a about a two foot PR to win the shot put at 45-10.25. 

Also scoring was Andrew Massaro who had a gutsy triple finishing fourth in the 800m, third in the 1600m, and also ran on their 4x400m relay which sealed the win finishing third. Brian Hutchison and Grant Melko were second and sixth in the 3200m, Manik Dhawan fifth in the 1600m, and Nasir Menoken-El sixth in the hurdles. Their full team summary can be found here

Mater Dei won the closing 4x400m running 3:36.58, and had a big day from Kai'leel Jefferson who won the 400m at 52.42 and was second in the 55m dash running 6.70. Check their full team summary right here

Morris Catholic's third title in school history came with a bang as they scored 64 points, 36 ahead of second place finishers Hudson Catholic and Villa Walsh Academy.

Kate McAndrew shined once again for her team winning the 800m at 2:20.78 and the 1600m at 5:20.59. She also thew a PR in the shot put to place fourth with a mark of 30-09. Destiny DeBlock cleared 4-10 for second in the high jump and ran 9.01 for third in the hurdles along with her teammate Sam Quinn in fourth at 9.79.

Mia Berthiaume was fourth in the 400m at 64.17 and fifth doubling back in the 800m. Prithika Satish also picked up a solid second place finish in the 55 dash running a season best 7.58. The team closed out the night with a win the 4x400m at 4:17.92. 

Other highlights from the meet...

Kody Gibbs of Immaculate Conception - Montclair won the 55m dash at 6.57. His teammate Isas Waxter also won the the 55m hurdles with a sizable lead at 7.87. Isaac Carter of Roselle Catholic cleared 5-10 to win the high jump, he won on jumps over Narin Buntin and Alex Hoffman nj who also made it over 5-10. James Lukenda of Montclair Kimberley Academy vaulted 11-03 for the win in the pole vault. 

On the girls side.. Hannah Reynolds of Trinity Hall ran 7.48 to win the 55m dash, her school also won the 4x400m in an exciting race with Morris Catholic 4:17.27 to 4:17.92. Freshman Selah Dungey of Newark Academy won the high jump at 5-02. Grace Kellogg of Eastern Christian had a winning vault of 9-00. Hudson Catholic went 1-2 in the shot put thanks to Yasmeen McDonald throwing 34-09 and Esther Dogbe 31-00.25. 

Selena Munroe of Benedictine Academy ran 8.79 to win the hurdles in a close finish over Nicole Borowiec of Morristown-Beard at 8.80. Sophomore Milani Bethel of St. Dominic Academy ran 1:02.30 to win the 400m. Anna Schaller of Montclair Kimberley Academy took home gold in the 3200m running 11:11.90.
