Reanda Richards of West Essex won her first New Balance Nationals Outdoor title on Sunday running 58.91 in the 400m hurdles championship. The only girl to break 59 seconds Sunday Richards had a commanding lead of almost half a second at the line. That performance also ranks her US#3 on the season leaderboards.
That is her best career performance so far, her previous was posted at the start of June when she won the Group 3 NJSIAA State Championship with a meet record 58.95.
This victory continues a dominant winning streak for New Jersey that now reaches over five years for the girls 400m hurdles. Olympic hurdler Sydney McLaughlin won the NBNO event all four years of her high school career from 2014-2017. Richards was fifth as a junior in the 2017 championship running 59.65.
The senior is Rutgers bound after graduation this summer and is certainly finishing out her high school career strong.
