Busy Weekend for Sydney McLaughlin | Another 300m Attempt and State Champs

As reported in a press release from the meet, Sydney McLaughlin will take another shot at that national record in the 300 meter Friday night February 17th during the Artie O'Connor College Invitational. The meet kicks of 3:00 pm at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the New York Armory.

The high school Olympian most recently ran a 37.09 at the Millrose Games on February 11th, a personal record that reassured her place as second all-time nationally in the high school event.  The standard needed to break the high school record is set at 36.96 thanks to Francena McCorory who ran the time in 2006.

On top of that the Union Catholic senior is scheduled to compete in the NJSIAA Non-Public A State Championships Saturday afternoon. According to the entry lists released this week she is entered to run the 400 meter dash, 55 meter dash, and 4x400 meter relay. Just note that those are entries for possible competition, she is not locked in to run any of those.

So far this season McLaughlin has had success in the long jump and 300 meter as well as on relays both with her high school squad and while running with professionals. She was part of a world record distance medley relay at the end of January where the star studded team of Olympians posted a 10:40.31 as McLaughlin split a 52.32 in the 400 meter leg. An interview from that performance can be found in the video above.
