Tim Bason and Brandon Tubby held a hard pace for most of the Group 4 race on Friday evening, placing them well ahead of the rest of the field. The two would go on to run the fastest two times of the season for New Jersey so far this season, Tubby a time of 4:09.59 NJ#1 and Bason 4:10.30 NJ#2.
Bason was the leader for most of the race as Tubby held on waiting to place his kick. On the last turn Bason made what looked like a finishing move putting space between himself and his competitor. Tubby went wide into lane three off the turn and somehow found the extra gear to react to Bason's move and take the victory down the final stretch.
This was the second straight electrifying race, as the boys stepped onto the track just after the crowd was pumped up by an epic kick in the girls 1600 meter.
