On Friday Sydney McLaughlin broke the 400 meter dash New Jersey state record previously held by Olivia Baker from Columbia HS. McLaughlin's time of 52.44 moved her ahead of Baker's 52.46 set in 2014 on the all-time New Jersey list, and that time also pushes her to US#1 on the season. She's coming off an indoor campaign that finished with a national record in this event during Indoor Nationals when she toasted the New York Armory track for 51.84.
McLaughlin had already opened up this same Group meet earlier that afternoon when she won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.37, the NEW overall group meet record. She has a best of 56.99 on the season which was posted back on May 19th at Union County Championships.
