We are still waiting a few days the high school cross country scene to pick up.. HOWEVER college has started and a few of New Jersey's institutions ran to victory this past weekend. One team even swept the competition.

Ramapo opened up their 2015 season with a win on the Men's side and a 2nd place team finish on the Women's. Matt Touhy led the Road Runners to victory with a 16:09 finish setting the pace for their 16:42 team average in the Men's 5000m. Bergen Community College placed fourth and FDU sixth as a team in the men's race.


On the women's side Aldephi University (NY) took the victory as a team but Ramapo was right behind with 41 points to their 24. Led by Emily Brock's second place 20:13 finish the Lady Road Runners scored 2+4+5+6+7 (12+17) with a 20:50 average. Montclair State University finished third with 107 points led by Allison Mycek in 9th with a time of 21:35. Ocean County College finished in the top five with 144 points in fifth, Bergen CC sixth 146 points, FDU ninth with 190 points.

Monmouth University brought out the brooms on Saturday winning both the men's and women's races at the Monmouth U. XC Kick Off.


The Monmouth U. women's squad had an impressive 19 point showing averaging 14:57 and posting a scoring line of 1+2+4+5+7 (9+12) in the 4k race. Jenna Cupp led the Harks with a 14:37 first place finish, her teammate Rachel Lehnert right there in second at 14:41. Lehnert is just a freshmen coming out of Rumson-Fair Haven HS. The squad split a mere 32 seconds from top scorer to the fifth! Seton Hall University placed third as a team with 96 points and a team average of 15:54; they were led by Amanda Quaglia in 11th with a time of 15:19.


In the men's competition Monmouth sealed the victory with a 4+5+6+7+8 (9+15) line for 30 points and a 19:38 team average in the 6000m. Even more impressive is the ONE SECOND split between their scorers. Led by Graham Huggins-Filozof in fifth with a 19:37 the rest of the Hawks finished sixth through ninth with Kevin French finishing their top five at 19:38!

Seton Hall finished third as a team with Lafayette College (PA) just ahead in second. Seton Hall scored 70 points with a line of 11+12+14+16+17 (18+19). They had a small 15 second split as well while averaging 19:50.

Notes:

Georgian Court University scored first as a team in the women's 5000m race. The Lady Lions averaged 22:13 and scored 1+7+8+9+17 (19+26) for 42 points just edging out Bloomfield College with 47 points. GCU was led by Jessica Handsaker who finished first with a time of 20:52. Bloomfield College was led by D'Liyah Brown who finished fifth with 21:43. Bloomfield finished with an average of 22:23.


On the men's side Bloomfield led NJ in second as a team behind Wilmington University with 58 points to their 30. The Bloomfield men's squad averaged 31:26 on the 8000m course with a scoring line of 2+6+13+17+20 (23+28). They were led by James Menendez in second running 29:30. GCU's men finished fifth with 118 points.

The Rowan University Men's Cross Country team had a great start to the season with a 39 point victory at the Salisbury Fall Classic in Maryland. With a scoring line of 3+5+9+10+12 (13+18) they averaged 26:41 and split 34 seconds! They were led by Ed Freisinger who took third with a time of 26:22. Rowan just out scored the US Naval Academy who finished second with 46 points and an average of 26:46.
