National NJ Pride Through December 2012

A quick look at the top New Jersey athletes compared to the rest of the nation so far through this young season. We've got a few US#10 and above rankings.

55m ------------------------------

New Jersey girls led by Denesha Ransome US#24 with a personal best 7.29, congrats.

55h ------------------------------

Iana Amsterdam of Newark Tech hit an 8.31 in the 55Hurdles at the Bishop Loughlin Games and currently has Jersey sitting US#11.

Hakim Horton of Trenton Central posted a great early season personal best in the 55Hurdles sprinting a 7:56 at the Merli Invitational this past weekend. He is 5th in the country so far this young season.

400m ------------------------------

Zyaire Clemes of Trenton Central won the Merli Invite Boys 400m in 50.46 to rank 9th in the U.S. leading NJ. Also up there for the boys stands Phillip Gomez of Glen Ridge US#12  at 50.85 and William Gibson of Hopewell Valley US#14  at 51.04h. I recognize a past Jersey star Theodore Foster leading the country and state of Ohio his new home with a time of 47.97!

Jersey girls are led by US#7 Ramapo HS junior Deanna Dilandro with a 59.04 at the Armory, and US#8 Keturah Orji a junior from Mount Olive HS of Morris County.

800m ------------------------------

The boys 800m is riddled with NJ pride as Isaac Clark of Pleasantville HS leads as US#1 so far with a 1:54.23 at the Armory during the Marine Corps Holiday Classic. Travis Ellis of Morris Hills is US#3 clocking 1:56.94 and Marlboro HS's Brandon Mazarella hits a 1:58.17 good for US#9, all at that same meet.

The girls side is led by Freehold Twp's Emily Bracher a sophomore running personal best of 2:18.85 at Merli. Olivia Baker of Columbia HS US#13 with a 2:19.16, Bridget Flynn of Ocean City US#17 with 2:19.57. More NJ girls rounded out the Top US 25!  

1600m ------------------------------

In the boys 1600m Chris Marco of Toms River South from Ocean County hits a early season 4:20.12c at the Bishop Loughlin Games for US#4. Expecting great things from this senior athlete after his amazing 2012 track campaign.

Girls wise Kylene Cochrane of West Morris Central HS hit a 5:05.29 in the mile converted to a 5:03.52 that is US#14 as of today.

3200m ------------------------------

For the boys we HOLD US#1! Alright.. it's early, but Kyle Levermore of Don Bosco Prep hit a personal best in the 2 mile and converted it's a sweet early season 9:14.66. US#15 and US#16 go to NJ as well thanks to Michael Higgins of Don Bosco Prep (9:30.42c) and Tom O'Neill of Middletown North with a 9:35.75.

Girls in the long haul for New Jersey are led by Mackenzie Barry of Mendham HS, Morris County. She ran a 10:59.68 at the Passarelli Invite, that's US#9. That's fourth if you don't count all the converted times from the 2 mile ahead of her.

HJ ------------------------------

Zachary Davis of Sparta wasn't too far off his best career high jump holding US#2 with a 6-8.25 at the Pietrewicz Invitational. Note this athlete also placed 15th in the Shot Put at that meet, along with winning the high jump. Ian Kirk of Howell US#14 (6-6), Justin Love of Matawan Regional US#15 (6-6), and Hakim Horton of Trenton Central US#17 (6-6).

Garden State has some high flying girls as well, US#2 is Newark Tech's Brionna Singleton at 5-8 which is a PB for this junior.  

PV ------------------------------

The girls national pole vault rankings have already bested last years best, go Texas go. We reside 24th and 30th overall, thanks to Lyndsi Ross-Trevor of Montclair Kimberly Academy, 11-0, and Marlena Sabatino of Hillsborough, 11-0.

Shot Put ------------------------------

Mark Ramsey of Paterson - Kennedy HS tossed a 57-11 for a new PB and is US#6. We've got a good amount of strong individuals in the hunt: Spencer Ross of Mahwah US#8 at 57-0.5, Sean Conway of Toms River South is US#11 with a 56-7, many more names up there.

On the girls side Irene Cedano of Hasbrouck Hts. marked a 42-7 good for US#5, an early season PB for her.

4x400m ------------------------------

Jersey boys are currently US#3 at 3:24.31 thanks to the Union Catholic boys.

NJ girls are led by Lenape Regional, US#12, who ran a 4:03.21 at the Marin Corps Hoilday Classic.
