17th Annual Cherokee Challenge Highlights Weekend Action

 

The Cherokee Challeng with close to 90 teams and  over 3000 athletes will take center stage as Week 2 of the 2012 New Jersey XC season kicks things into gear. The 3200m Class Meet will kick off this morning with Middle School races at 9am and conclude with the Senior Boys event at noon. NJRunners will be on site all day for all the action. Ater the dust settles, we'll have results, stats, pictures from 2 of our photographers and some video interviews.

Saturday 9/15 - Cherokee HS

The meet is underway and the winner of the Middle School Girls race is, for the 3rd straight year, Brianna Gess of Haddonfield in  7:38 (un) for 1.5 mi. Haddonfield MS goes 1-2 as Kaitlyn Bonnet goes 8:40 for second.

The Middle School Boys will be next up on the course on this breezy, coolish morning at the Cherokee HS campus. Bobby hastie of the Pond rd. MS wins the Boys race in 7:43. Derek Gess, brother of the Girls MS race winner picks up 2nd in 7:49

 

This meet is huge. There are 116 teams here with close to 3700 runners competing today

 

The High School races are starting now with the Frosh. All races will be Girls followed by Boys

Hillsborough's Stephanie Mauer runs 11:57 to win the Frosh race. Mauer was followed by Briana Roberts of Pennsauken ( 12:29) and teamate Paige Novak (12:30)

Austin Stoner continues a great tradtion for the Haddonfield 'Dawgs program with a 10:24 win in the frosh Boys race. Owen Long of Haddon Twp. earns silver, running 10:29 with Michael Flanagan of Tatnall (De.) third in 10:35

 

Olivia Young of Unionville (Pa) is the winner of the Soph Girls race (11:2x) , ahead of Kieran Hanrahan of Tatnall (De). Hanrahan ran 11:24 for 2nd.

 

Tatnall's Stephen Garrett runs 9:48 to capture the Soph Boys title over Mochael Digricoli of Hillsborough who takes silver in 10:05

 

Unionville (Pa) picks up it's second win of the day as Courtney Smith win the Junior Girls race

The win in the Jr. Boys race is Louis Corgliano of Hammonton HS

 

Tatnall takes the top 2 places in the senior Girls race with Meaghan Malloy of Haddonfield the top Jerser in 4th

Shawn Wilson shaves 3 seconds off the CR with a 9:25 win in the Senior Boys race
