
Alexander Osayemi, who starred at NJ's Clayton High, advanced to the final of the men's 400-meter at the USATF Under-20 Championships on Thursday afternoon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Osayemi, a freshman at the University of Alabama, automatically qualified for the final by placing second in his preliminary heat in 46.19 behind Quincy Wilson of the Bullis School in Maryland, who ran 45.28. Wilson, who won a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris in the 4x400 relay, ran the fastest time of the prelims and Osayemi's time was the fourth fastest. Friday's final is scheduled for 3:43. p.m.
The top two finishers in Friday's 400 final will earn a spot on the U.S. team that will compete at World Under-20 Championships, scheduled for August 5-9 at Hayward Field.
Osayemi, who won the 400 with a meet record time of 46.08 at the NJ Meet of Champions as a senior at Clayton High in June of 2025, owns a PR of 45.58 that he ran last month at the SEC Championships.
