
Leah Starkey smashed another all-time record when the super sophomore at Ocean Township dropped a 4:42.92 to break the All-Groups Meet Record in the girls' 3,200-meter run in Friday's Group 2 race at Northern Burlington High School in Columbus.
Starkey's 4:42.92, which is No. 8 in NJ history, tood down the All Groups record (every Group in the state combined) of 4:43.92 that was set in 2010 by the legendary Ajee' Wilson of Neptune. Wilson is a 2-time Olympian, a World Champion, and the current American Indoor Record holder in the 800m!!!
Starkey had a great battle with Haddonfield star Dylan Hosty, who was second in 4:47.58, which is No. 5 in NJ history for a freshmen!!
The historic win in the 1,600 capped a sparkling distance double by Starkey, who won the 3,200m on Friday in 10:02.73, the fastest time of all the group meets run this weekend.
At the Central Jersey Championships 2 weeks ago, Starkey, who has two 2 Meet of Champions titles (3,200 outdoors last year and XC last fall), ran 9:48.62, No. 3 in NJ history, to crush the All-Time Secctional record (all sections and groups combined) of 10:07.48 set at the 2022 North Jersey, Section 1 Group 2 Championships by Angelina Perez of Lakeland.
