News from Around the Shore Conference - Week 4

Obviously the big news in track this week came from across the river at Franklin Field, but since that’s being covered elsewhere, here is the rest of the news in the Shore Conference:

There were some notable marks in dual meets this week as athletes get ready for the championship season.

Boys:

On Monday in a Class A South dual meet between Brick Memorial and Toms River North, Jihaad Howard went for the 100-200-400 triple and won them all in 10.6, 22.7 and 50.6 respectively.  However, his 15 points in those events weren’t enough to get his team the win though as they fell to TRN 99-41.  TRN ran 3:30.4 in the 4x400 for the win and in the field events Fred Tucker from TRN threw the shot 50-11.

Girls:

Sam Osadacz from Jackson Memorial won all 4 of her events in impressive fashion as her team triumphed over Toms River East.  Sam won the 100m (12.6), the 200m (26.5), the long jump (17’ 8.75”) and the triple jump (36’ 1”).  Also having a great spring is teammate Chanel Rogers.  She timed 14.6 in the 100h and 1:07.5 in the 400h to win both before competing in the Lions Invitational on Saturday. There she beat all comers in the 100h (14.7) and narrowly missed the win in the 400H at the line.  Jackson Memorial’s discus thrower Melanie Arfuso chalked up the win in the dual with a 112’ 10”.

In a dual between Southern Regional and Toms River South, there were some fine marks as both teams tuned up for the late season championship meets.  In the 100M Michelle Simmons of Southern blasted a 12.1 and Sam Rodriquez won the 100H in 14.8.  Rodriquez would take 2nd at the Lions Invitational in that event with a 15.1.  Southern’s 4x400 team also got ready for Penn in that dual meet, recording a 4:12.6 win.

In the meet between TRN and Brick Memorial, Colleen McAndrews of TRN cleared 5-0 for the win in the high jump and Sophia Belaid of Brick Memorial won the discus at 113-8 while Stephanie Newman of TRN won the javelin with a throw of 101-5.

On Wednesday lots of teams were in action in dual meets up and down the Shore.

Stephanie Skove of Monmouth Regional won the high jump (5-4) and the triple jump (35-1.5) in a close victory over Freehold 75-65.  Monmouth edged RBC (74-66).  RBC's Brianne Reed had a strong long jump performance winning in 18-3.  It’s starting to look like it might take an 18-0 jump just to make the finals in the Shore Conference championships in a few weeks.
