Update on Aviator Relays Penn Qualifiers for Milers

Additions to Boys & Girls Fields

 

With Tuesday's deadline for applying for the Penn Relays 1,600 meter qualifiers at the Aviator Relays Friday, we are proud to add the following invitees to our acceptance list:


Boys: Phelan McCormick of Don Bosco (4:25 last year), Brad Paternostro of Ramapo (last year's State 800 meter champion who ran 4:14.12 for 1600 last year), Evan Roelke of Ridge (4:20.73 last year), Sharif Ali of Cliffside Park (4:24.02 last year) and Harrison Brakewood of Voorhees (4:23.98 last winter).

 

Girls: Kristen Traub of Eastern Christian (5:01.62 this winter), Alyssa LaGuardia of DePaul (4:58.66 last year) and Caitlin Toner of New Providence (5:18.34 last year).

Cludia DiSomma joins field at Aviator Relays Qulaifier

Sparta HS soph Claudia DiSomma, defending MOC champ at 1600m is confirmed for the Aviator Relays Girls 1600m Penn Relays Qualifier.

Returning to action after a soccer injury all but voided out her Indoor season, DiSomma boasts a 1600m PR of 4:45.57

 

Four boys and four girls first to be invited to the Aviator Relays Penn Relays Qualification Race.

Patrick Rono of Lyndhurst (4:14.35 last spring), Everett Price of New Providence (4:16.26), Mohamed Eid of Ridgewood (4:31 this winter) and Domenick DÂ’Agostino of Wallington (4:32.87 last spring) are the first four boys to accept invitations to the Penn Relays Qualification 1,600 meter race to be held at the Aviator Relays in Hasbrouck Heights April 8.
Brianna Feerest of Point Pleasant Beach (5:09.66 this winter), Ashlynn Fields of Mt. St. Dominic (5:05.55), Kat McCurdy of Mt. St. Dominic (5:05.89) and Amanda Corbosiero of Mt. St. Dominic (5:06.9) have accepted invitations to the girls race.
A maximum of 12 runners in each race will be invited and several invitations have been issued. But there are openings for applicants. Please apply as soon as possible until April 5 by e-mailing Paul Schwartz at pschwa@optonline.net or by calling him at 551-427-5472. Boys must have run 4:35 and girls 5:25 last spring or this winter to be eligible for selection. The field will be completed and announced on April 6.

 

 

 

"As part of the Aviator Relays on Friday evening April 8 at the beautiful Gary Depken Field right by Route 17 South in Hasbrouck Heights, there will be Penn Relays qualifiers with special boys and girls 1,600 meter races, to be run after the 4-x-1,600 and 4-x-100 relays (approximately 5:15 to 5:30 p.m.).
Fields will be limited to 12 boys and 12 girls as selected by Paul Schwartz, long-time sports writer at the Record. Interested runners should have their coaches contact Paul by 10 p.m. April 5, 2011 at pschwa@optonline.net or 551-427-5472. Accepted runners will pay $8 the night of the meet, making checks payable to Aviator Track and Field.
The meet itself is open to New Jersey Group 1 and 2 teams and the overall entry closes April 1, but athletes interested in the invitational 1,600 meters can be from any size school and must enter by April 5. Runners will be notified on April 6 if they are accepted. Runners who have run 4:35 or better (boys) or 5:25 or better (girls) are encouraged to enter.
