Megan Venables notified Villanova University today that she would be studying and running there in the fall. Megan was unable to complete her college selection process earlier as she had hoped because of her XC training and race schedule. Ultimately that delay made no difference as Megan visited Villanova this past weekend and loved it there.
Venables told NJRunners "I chose Villanova because it's a perfect fit. It's close to home, the team is great, and I feel like I can improve tremendously training with these great runners, especially with such knowledgable coaches, Gina and Meghan. Everyone made me feel so welcome, and I can not wait to be a part of Villanova!"
Megan had a stellar 2010 XC season, breaking one of the most hallowed (and oldest) records around, the course mark at Holmdel. She went 17:28 to better the old mark set by Janet Smith in 1983 by 7 seconds. She was 5th at Footlocker nationals and also smashed the course mark at Belmont Plateau earlier in the season. She joins a a XC team that has won back-to-back NCAA Championships as well as a very strong track program. There are currently 11 Jersey athletes on the women's track team with 9 returning next year.
She has resolved to break 5:00 for the 1600 and 17:00 for the 5000 on the track in 2011, coming in with PRs of 17:22.84.
NJRunners wishes Megan success at Villanova and in her quest for these PRs before ending her high school career.
