Injury Report - Claudia DiSomma

Last year’s uber frosh Claudia DiSomma of Sparta has sustained a broken tibia, an injury which will keep her from running until late January or early February at the earliest. DiSomma, who ran 2:09.37, 4:45.57(1600), 4:47.04 (mile) and anchored Sparta’s 3rd place finish at the New Balance Nationals, injured her leg while playing soccer.

Said DiSomma “I was at soccer practice and I slipped and got my foot stuck in a small ditch and heard a loud crack.”  The break is a hairline fracture and will keep Claudia in a full cast for 3 weeks, then in a boot for another three. Doctors have told DiSomma that there is no reason not to expect a full recovery.

“I am not going to let this keep me down”, Claudia said. “I’ll work extra hard to come back stronger than ever.”

In 2010 DiSomma was US #11 at 1600 meters and the mile, 21st in the 800 and the Sparta sprint medley relay was US #3.
