Burlington County Open Recap

WOW!!

Megan Lacy destroyed the Mill Creek Park (Willingboro) course record toda, while winning the Burlington County Open Girl’s Championship. Running 17:53  On a cold and windy afternoon, she won by more than minute over Natalia Ocasio a sophomore from Lenape (19:17) and Meghan Malloy of Cinnaminson (19:30).

To shed some perspective on this feat, Lacy beat two girls who have pretty impressive resumes of their own. Natalia was a Sectional Gr. 4 champ last year in XC,  was the top freshman finisher in the MOC @ Homdel, and has run  a sub 5 minute 1600m.  Malloy was a Sectional Champ in the 3200m in Gr. 2 and has a PR of 18:45 for 5k on the track to her credit.

Megan Lacy is becoming a super star right in front of everyone. Her progress this seson has been nothing short of amazing.  She and Megan Venebles of Highland are in my opinion the two best runners in the state right now.

 WOW!

Girl Team results-

As predicted in my preview, Cherokee imparted revenge on the Lenape Indians from the Olympic Conference meet last week and took the title by the score of 36 to 45.  Cherokee went 1, 5, 8, 10, and 12 for 36.  Lenape went 2, 4, 6, 15, 18 for 45.  Moorestown finished third with 72 points. Nice effort by the Moorestown girls & coach Denning.   The Lady Quakers seem to be on a mission after an early season dual meet upset.  Seneca was fourth with 148 pts. & Cinnaminson scored 150 to squeak by Rancocas Valley’s 153,  Shawnee  came home with 154 points to round out the top seven teams.

On the boy’s side of things, as also predicted in my preview, Anthony Horten the senior from Moorestown won in 16:24.  It was a three person race at the two mile mark between Horten, Conner Herr from Shawnee & Greg Malloy from Cherokee.  Going up the final hill Horten & Herr gaped Malloy and it became a two person race w/ 300 to go with Horten winning.  Herr took silver in 16:26 and Malloy got 3rd with a 16:31.
