The second weekend of the NJ Cross Country season will get under way this afternoon (Friday) with the Season Opener at Darlington Park in Mahwah. Traditionally this meet features teams from Bergen Co. with a smattering of other North Jersey schools. Darlington is a pretty fast course, so expect some fairly quick times this afternoon.
Moving along to Saturday action. The long running (pun intended) Bernie Magee Class meet will return to Warinanco Park, the home of the North 2 Sectional, with a 9am start. Another, newer class event will be run at the Central Jersey Sectinal site. The Thompson Park Class Meet will get underway at 10am with the Senior Boys event.
The former Battle of Monmouth meet has moved further south and is now the Battle at Ocean County Park. The meet, also a class event, will start with the frosh at 10am.
Ringo Adamson brings his unique brand of XC back to Gloucester Co. College with the South Jersey Shoot Out. The meet, which matches teams in 3 races, pitting the 5-6-7 runners in one race, the 3-4 in the second and the "stud" 1-2 athletes in the last. Lots of fun with music, cow bells and the energy that Ringo brings to everything he does.
A few out of state meets, with perhaps some jersey interest will be run tomorrow at 2 of the Northeast's more venerable sites. Van Cortlandt Park will host the Regis Invitational for the boys, and the Villa Bears Invite. The Regis meet will include Don Bosco Prep, currently ranked #4 in the state. Last but not least, the Briarwood Invitational will take place at famed Belmont Plateau. this meet has been the site of some epic runs by NJ harriers and this years edition should be no different.
