Donini Wins Shot Put To Lead Big NJ Circle Show At NBN

Peter Donini has been waiting all season to unleash a big bomb in the circle.

It finally came, and it couldn't have happened at a better time as the star at Delbarton unloaded the best throw of his career on the biggest stage when he launched a PR of 66-5.75 on his final attempt in the boys shot put to put an exclamation point on the second national title of his career at the New Balance National Championships on Friday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Donini, who won the shot put with his previous PR of 65-10.25 at Nike National Indoor Championships at the NY Armory this past March, had a season best of 64-1 before Friday.

The Michigan-bound star got the big bomb he had been seeking to lead a 1-5-6 finish for the Garden State. Donini's 66-5.75 moved him all the way to No. 11 on the state's all-time outdoor list.

Here is his series - 59-7.75, 61-3.50, 65-8.75, 62-3.75, 61-9.75, and 66-5.75.

Joining Donini on the podium as All-Americans were Joe Seib of St. Rose, who finished fifth with a PR of 64-0.25, and Anthony Liakhnovich of Hammonton, who was sixth with a 63-1.50. Liakhnovich won the shot put at the New Balance National Indoor Championships this past March.
