Natalie Dumas of Eastern continued her season for the ages with another huge victory at Sunday's Brooks PR Invitational at Renton Memorial Stadium in Renton, Washington.
Dumas, a junior who is coming off an electrifying triple at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions this past Wednesday, lit up the oval by throwing down a 52.40. Dumas, who shares the NJ record with 4-time Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone at 51.87, came up a bit short in her bid own the record outright.
McLaughlin ran her 51.87 at the 2017 Non-Public A Championships at Silver Eagle Stadium in Egg Harbor. Dumas matched that record when she ran 51.87, the second fastest time in the nation this season, at the South Jersey, Group 4 Championships last month at Pennsauken High.
The season that Dumas is having, which will continue next weekend at the New Balance National Championships in Philadelphia, is one of the greatest we have ever seen in NJ history!!!
This past Wednesday, Dumas became the only athlete (boy or girl) in state history to win the 400 hurdles, the 400, and the 800 in the 56 year history of the Meet of Champions! And her time of 2:02.75 in the 800, which clinched her breathtaking trifecta, smashed the meet record and is No. 3 in state history.
In addition to that, Dumas, who won the 400 hurdles at the 2024 New Balance National Championships, has run 57.30 in the 400 hurdles this season, which is No. 3 in NJ history and the No. 1 time in the nation this spring and No. 18 in U.S. high school history.
