There has never been anyone in NJ history like Natalie Dumas. No one!!! Ever!!!
The junior at Eastern, who is in a league of her own in state history when it comes to her insane range, added to her historic season with another eye-popping result when she ran 4:55.67 in the 1,600 on Thursday night at the 1,600 Night at the Nest Invitational at Allentown High School.
That's right, less than a week after she tied legendary Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone for the NJ 400 record with a 51.87 at the South Jersey, Group 4 meet, Dumas does this!!!!
Allison Lee, a junior at West Windsor-Plainsboro North, ran the fastest girls time at the Night At the Nest with a PR of 4:51.82!
The 4:55.67 by Dumas, which came in a mixed race with the boys and was her first ever 1,600 outdoors, is a PR of more than 10 seconds. Her previous best was 5:05.92 indoors at Ocean Breeze this past February.
While there are lots of races still to be run this season, Dumas is in the midst of a season for the ages!!!!
What she's doing is simply mind-blowing.
There's a lot to dig into with historical stats for Dumas. Let's take a deep dive.
I know at first glance some of these stats and numbers won't seem real, but that's because our eyes have never seen anything close to this before.
First off, by running sub 5 Dumas is now the only girl in NJ history to ever run under 12.25 in the 100 and under 5 in the 1,600 (maybe the only girl in U.S. history to pull that off??).
Dumas is now just the second high school girl in U.S. history to run under 52 in the 400 and under 5 in the 1,600. The other runner? She also from NJ, the great Athing Mu of Trenton (51.98 outdoors in 2019 and 4:59.48 for the mile indoors in 2017). Mu is a 2-time Olympic gold medalist (800 and 4x400 in 2021) and is the current American record holder in the 800.
100-12.23 (finished first at the South Jersey Open on May 3, 2025)
200-24.02-wind-aided (finished second to Sianni Wynn of Pennsauken at SJ, Group 4 Championships, May 17, 2025)
400-51.87-tied state record (SJ, Group 4 Championships, May 17, 2025)
800-2:07.68 (won her heat and placed 5th overall at the New Balance National Indoor Championships in March of 2025.
1,600-4:55.67 (first girl to finish in her heat at the Night at the Nest Invitational at Allentown High on May 22, 2025.
100 hurdles-15.82 (prelims at the 2023 Camden County Championships)
400 hurdles-58.32-No. 4 in NJ history (first at the New Balance National Championships in June of 2024.
That's not all!!
In her first season of XC last fall, Dumas placed fifth at the SJ, Group 4 XC Championships at Dream Park, and ran 20:26 to place 31st at the State Group 4 meet at Holmdel Park.
The 3,200 is the only distance Dumas hasn't run. With all of her other events, not sure we will see her run one. But would anyone be surprised she ran well under 11 minutes?
What will Dumas do next?!!!!
Well, that's still up in the air!
"Everything is still on the table for every meet for the rest of the season, the 200, 400, 400 hurdles, 800 and 4x400,'' said Eastern coach Mike Tangeman.
Tangeman said the only thing set in stone right now is that Dumas will be running the flat 400 at the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle, Washington on June 8.
Stay tuned!!!!
