PHILAELPHIA, PA. - Union Catholic put an exclamation point on another stunning collection of performances at the Penn Relays on Saturday by throwing down a pair of strong races in the 4x100 and 4x400 Championship of America races in front of a crowd of 40,953 at historic Franklin Field.
Running in an absolute torrential downpour, Maya Wyche, Taylor Cox, Natalia Thompson and Taylor Aska combined to finish sixth overall and second among American teams in 46.66, which was a stunning time considering the sideways rain and the fact they were in lane 1.

A couple hours later under sunny skies, Aska was back on the track with Sydney Chadwick, Paige Sheppard and Abriyah Thompson as the Vikings put the finishing touches on a great daily double by placing seventh overall and second among American teams in a NJ No. 12 all-time 3:43.66.
Winslow, who ran 3:43.46, No. 10 in NJ history. to win the South Jersey Large School Championship earlier on Saturday., finished eighth in 3:48.28.
Hydel of Jamaica won the race for the fourth straight year in a meet record 3:30.42!! The former record of 3:32.77 was set by Hydel in 2022.
Union Catholic's splits were 55.1 for Aska, 54.8 for Chadwick, 55.2 for Sheppard and 57.79 for Thompson. Aska and Sheppard were seemingly always on the track, doing everything their team needed. Aska was sensational, running the quarter leg on the meet record-breaking distance medley squad on Friday that ran 11:24.53, and she anchored two 4x100's, and led off the 4x400.
Sheppard was one of biggest stars of the meet!!
On Friday, the sophomore dropped a 4:41.65 anchor on the record-smashing DMR, and came back on Saturday to run in the 4x400 trials and 4x400 COA. Sheppard was so spectacular that she was named the Most Outstanding Girls' Athlete of the Meet for the Relay Events for the second straight year!!!
