U.S. No. 1 ranked Jessica Oji of Livingston HS improved upon her impressive start this indoor with a new PR of 52-1.5 in the shot put to win the Coach Glynn Holiday Carnival on Saturday in Staten Island, New York.
This performance moves the Livingston senior up to No. 3 all-time indoors on the New Jersey girls' shot put list, surpassing the 51-9.5 by Nicole Sims from 1991 and only behind Alyssa Wilson's national record of 57-5.5 in 2017 and Nickolette Dunbar's 54-7.5 from 2016.
Oji was already the national leader in the event with her season-opening mark of 51-8 on December 14th. She's the only one to clear 50 feet this season and U.S. No. 2 is currently set at 46-06, an early December mark by Gwen Howard of Whitko High School (IN).
Jessica's sister Nesta Oji, a junior at Livingston, has hit PR marks as well and was second at the Coach Glynn Holiday Carnival with a 35-7, N.J. No. 19.
Together the sisters are the top-ranked shot put relay squad in New Jersey with a total of 87-8.5! The next best-ranked squad is Washington Twp's Ella Karp, 41-5.5, and Aleeha Malik, 34-9, who total 76-2.5 as a pair.
