Villa Walsh Girls, UC Boys Repeat As Non-Public B Champs

The Vila Walsh girls and Union Catholic boys each repeated as champions at Thursday's NJSIAA Non-Public B Relays at the Bennett Center in Toms River.

In the boys competition, UC won five events on the way to defeating runner-up Bishop Eustace, 72-42, to capture it's fourth state relay championship. The Vikings who won the Non-Public B title in 2013, the Non-Public A championship in 2014, and the Non-Public B title the last two years.

UC finished first in the 4x800 with a meet record time of 8:29.66, and won the SMR (3:46.29), the 4x200 (1:35.12), the pole vault and the high jump. UC also placed second in the 4x400, second in the DMR, and third in the shot put.    

In the field, Joey Kilgannon (10-6) and Josh Hunsinger (9-6) combined to win the pole vault, and Kevin Philistin (5-10) and Justice Hicks (5-6) teamed up to win the high jump.  

On the girls side, Villa Walsh won four events and scored in all nine events on the way to dominating 68-50 victory over runner-up St. Benedict's Prep. It's the fifth state relay title for Villa Walsh and first title since winning a third championship in a row in 2016.

Villa Walsh's victories came in the DMR (13:35.77), the 4x800 (10:48.30), the high jump and and the pole vault.

Juniors Amalia Hronider and Jesse Kramer each cleared 4-8 in the HJ for Villa Walsh, and Hronides (6-6) and junior Avery Poruczynski (6-0) combined to win the pole vault.
