Hillsborough Girls, Ridge Boys Win Somerset Relay Titles

The Ridge boys and Hillsborough girls continued their dominance by extending winning streaks at Friday's Somerset County Relays at the Bennett Center in Toms River.

In the boys competition, Ridge won its fifth straight title with a 64-52 victory over runner-up Hillsborough.   

Ridge smashed its school record in the shuttle hurdles with a winning time of 32.78, won the 4x800 in 8:18.34, and placed fourth or better in six of the other seven events. Ridge's 32.78 in the shuttle hurdles broke a school record that stood for 16 years and is NJ No. 4 this season.   

The Red Devils also finished second in the high jump, shot put, SMR, DMR, and 4x400, and fourth in the 4x200 relay.  


On the girls side, Hillsborough won three events, ran a NJ No. 1 time in the DMR and flexed its superior depth and balance to score a 74-62 win over runner-up Montgomery.

Hillsborough's state leading performance came in the DMR when the Raiders ran 12:44.83. Their splits were 4:01.5 for Ava Lucariello, 60.3 for Sabrina Sardar, 2:28.3 for Lisa O'Sullivan, and 5:14.6 for Laina Denys.  

Hillsborough, which finished third or better in all nine events, also finished first in the shot put and pole vault, second in the 4x200, 4x400, 4x800, and high jump, and placed third in the SMR and shuttle hurdles.       

Hillsborough's DMR was one of four NJ No. 1 times run in the girls competition.

The other three NJ No. 1 performances were run by Franklin in the shuttle hurdles (32.23), Montgomery in the SMR (a school record 4:16.99) and Ridge in the 4x800 (9:52.84)
