Jaden Marchan Breaks NJ Record, Beats Quincy Wilson

Jaden Marchan pulled off a shocking and electrifying victory when the senior at Leonia took down national champion Quincy Wilson and broke the New Jersey record in the 600-meter run at Friday's Marine Corps Holiday Classic at the New York Armory.

Marchan, who gave up basketball to run indoors for the first time this season, stopped the clock at 1:17.66 to smash the NJ record of 1:17.9 set by Shaquan Brown of Paterson Kennedy at the 2005 Varsity Classic on the same track, is US No. 1 this season, and is US No. 4 all-time!!! Brown's 1:17.9 stood as the national record for seven years. The current national record is 1:15.58 set in 2022 by Will Sumner of Woodstock High in Georgia.

Marchan, second in the 400 at the NJ Meet of Champions last June, ran his first career 600 in 1:20.57 on Thursday at the Coach Glynn Holiday Carnival at Ocean Breeze!

Wilson, a sophomore stud at Bullis in Maryland, finished second to Marchan in a national sophomore record 1:17.81, just missing his PR of 1:17.80 that he ran to finish first at the Millrose Games last year.

Marchan's victory over Wilson, one of the biggest stars in the nation, is arguably the biggest upset of the season so far and should certainly put him on the national radar!!

Wilson is coming off a historic freshmen year.

Last year, Wilson won the 400 at the New Balance Indoor Nationals with a national freshman record time of 46.67,.which is No. 13 in U.S. high school indoor history. Last spring, Wilson placed second in the 400 at the New Balance National Championships, fourth in the 400 at the USATF U20 Championships, and ran 45.87.

Now Marchan, who ran PR's 21.87 in the 200m and 47.44 in the 400m past spring, is a sprinter that everyone in the country should be aware of!!!
