The Six Flags Wild Safari Invitational enters year 13 only missing 2020 due to the pandemic. We changed the course in 2018 due to construction for the solar panels at Hurricane Harbor. We will stay with the new course that features more running in front of the spectators and less in the sandy Safari ground.

The course records are now Karrie Baloga (Cornwall, NY) 16:52 (2021) for the girls and Stephen Kyvelos (Manalapan, NJ) 15:06 (2022) for the boys. The Team Ave records are Colts Neck, NJ girls 18:42.2 (2021) and Monroe, NJ boys 16:05.8 (2022).

This year's race features teams from 5 states, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey plus Wash DC. A little over half of the teams are from out-of-state, as in the previous years, so everyone gets to race against teams they would normally not see. Remember, the fastest 7 boys and girls (The All-Six Flags Team) and the fastest boys and girls team get special awards in the park and then get a pass to cut the line at the ride of their choice.

There will be no awards ceremony (no one wanted to leave the ride line they were in), instead, teams and individuals can pick up these special awards at the end of the meet near the starting line or in the park, by the fountain, when you first enter, between 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm.

We used pre-season rankings from NJ.milesplit, Tullyrunners, Delaware Online and PA milesplit. Times listed after names are from last spring.

Overall Preview

Both the boys and girls races have outstanding individuals. Many will compete in different races so we will see who gets pushed enough to run the top time of the day.

The top time of the day in each gender will win the Bob Petruski Award, named after our long time Head Referee for this meet.

On the boy's side, back from setting the course record last year is Stephen Kyvelos (Manalapan, NJ) 9:14 3200. He is one of 4 returners from last year's All-Six Flags team which include 5th placer Maan Patel (Monroe, NJ) 9:16 3200, 6th placer Parker Warkington (Conestoga, PA) 4:31 1600 and 7th placer Matthew Lucas (Monroe, NJ) 9:25 3200. The fight to make this year's All-Six Flags team also include: Ryan Tuohy (North Rockland, NY) 9:27 3200, Claudel Chery (North Rockland, NY) 9:28 3200, Hunter Celkupa (Colts Neck, NJ) 4:17/9:30 1600/3200, Matt Hoffman (Ocean City, NJ) 4:20/9:33 1600/3200, Owen Larson (Ethical Culture Fieldstone, NY) 4:20 1600, Stephen Barbera (Monroe, NJ) 9:37, Matthew Califf (Wayne Valley, NY) 4:21 1600, Andrew Krok (Colts Neck, NJ) 4:22 1600, Dylan Guarquila (Hackensack, NJ) 4:23 1600, Connor Gebhardt (St Mark's, DE) 4:23 1600, Colby Twyman (Tower Hill, DE) 4:23 1600. There are a host of others within seconds as you will see in the Varsity Division runners/teams to watch.

The fight for the fastest boys team average should be wide open this year but the top could include Colts Neck, NJ (#7 in NJ), Monroe (#12 NJ), Manalapan (#13 NJ), Cherry Hill East, NJ (#14 NJ), North Rockland, NY (#15 NY), Charter School of Wilmington (#4 Div 1 DE), Ocean City, NJ. Will there be a surprise?

In the girls races, 2021 was a fantastic year as 5 of the All - Six Flags Wild Safari team made it to the Footlocker National Champs and then 1 more in 2022. Who will make it this year? This year's meet returns no one from the last year's All-Six Flags team. 9th placer Amelia Keogh (Ramapo, NJ) 11:24 3200 is the top returner. Others fighting to make the All-Six Flags Team are: Zaria Hall (East Meadow, NY) 4:36 1500, Shaylen Goslar (Pine Bush, NY) 1500 4:39, Madyson Moroney (Pearl River, NY) 4:40 1500, Aislinn Frazer (Friends Acad [LI], NY) 10:02 3000, Isabella Leyton (Poly Prep, NY) 4:44/10:03 1500/3000, Abigail Theriault (American Studies, NY) 10:03 3000, Melina Johnston (Robbinsville, NJ) 10:50 3200, Mauve Smith (Ocean City, NJ) 5:03/10:58 1600/3200, Riley Fayer (Audubon, NJ) 10:58 3200, Delana Einreinhofer (Wallkill Valley, NJ) 5:05/11:03 1600/3200, Elizabeth Scarpa (Colts Neck, NJ) 11:07 3200, Maggie Horn (Montclair Kimberly, NJ) 5:03/11:08 1600/3200, Clara Shingler (Pleasantville, NY) 10:30 3000, Meghan Rentner (Allentown, NJ) 11:14 3200, Kristen Sarnicola (St Joseph by the Sea, NY) 10:33 3000, Jordan Hadfield (AP Schalick, NJ) 11:17 3200, Claire Bohan (Southside, NY) 10:36 3000, Kara Langbaum (Wayne Hills, NJ) 5:10 1600 (add 20 secs to 1500 to make 1600 time and 42-45 secs to 3000 to make 3200)
