Caden Montini Will Follow In Brother's Footsteps Onto Yale

Oak Hall senior Caden Montini, one of Florida's top returning middle-distance runners, officially committed to Yale University for his future athletic and academic endeavors on Thursday.

Montini with track personal bests of 4:13 for 1600 meters, 1:54 for 800 meters, and 9:29 for 3200 meters as well as 15:21 for 5000 meters in cross country, will join his older brother Austin Montini in New Haven, Connecticut as teammates once again as his 5-time state champion brother joined the Yale program after graduating in the spring of 2021. Austin has dropped his times down in college to 4:05 in the mile along with posting swift times of 2:26 in the 1000 and 3:50 in the 1500.

The younger Montini in Caden won his first and only state title as a sophomore in the 3200 meter run at the 2021 FHSAA State Outdoor Track & Field Finals, but will certainly be in the mix this spring to compete for more state titles at whatever distance decides to focus on in the spring. He finished third in this past November's FHSAA 1A state cross-country race and ranks as the state's third fastest returning miler/1600 meter runner as well as among the top 1000 in the country with his 4:13 1600 meter best.

It would be amazing if both Montini's could develop into sub-4-minute milers while at Yale after Austin ran 4:05 during his freshman year. They will definitely be pushing each other in college to see who ends up as the fastest miler between the two.
