Seton Hall Prep's Donaldson, Matulonis, DeVita Are Going Ivy

Ryan Matulonis, Nicholas DeVita and Xavier Donaldson, who combined to win a national title last March, have been running on relays together since their freshmen year at Seton Hall Prep.

That's not all they have in common.

The talented trio is also headed to the Ivy League to continue their academic and athletic careers.

How awesome is that!

Matulonis (pictured above on the far left) and DeVita, who will be teammates at UPenn, and Donaldson, who will be running for Princeton University, made it official on Monday when they signed their National Letters of Intent during a special ceremony at Seton Hall Prep.

They were joined at the ceremony by teammate Leo Avigliano, a thrower who signed with Washington and Lee in Virginia.

Last winter, Matulonis, DeVita and Donaldson combined with Russell Webb to light up the track at the New York Armory track with a blazing 3:18.76 wire-to-wire victory in the 4x400 at the New Balance National Championships. That was the second fastest time in the nation this during the season, is No. 13 in NJ indoor history, and is a Seton Hall Prep school record.

Seton Hall, who also won the 4x400 at Millrose Games in February, won its heat by nearly five seconds, and finished almost three seconds over the Hall Track Club, which won its heat and finished second overall in 3:21.58.

The only team that ran faster in the country during the indoor season than Seton Hall Prep was Cathedral from Los Angeles, who won the Nike National title at Ocean Breeze in 3:18.28. Seton Hall's 3:18.76 broke the school record of 3:19.36 set when Seton Hall finished first at the Eastern States Championships in 2004.

Individually,  Matulonis won the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles at the Essex County Championships last spring, and was third at the M of C in the 400 IH.  and owns PR's of 50.05 in the 400, 14.66 in the 110 HH, and 53.17 in the 400 IH.

Donaldson won the 400 at the Essex County Championships last May with a PR of 47.70, and also owns sizzling PR's of 6.55 in the 55 dash, 10.77 in the 200, ad 21.36 in the 200.

DeVita dropped a huge PR in the 800 last spring when he won the Essex County 2-lapper in 1:53.18, and he also owns a 400 PR of 49.05.

Avigliano, who will join his brother Luke (Seton Hall Prep Class of 2021) on the track and field team at Washington and Lee, had a breakout junior season in the throws with PR's of 43-6.50 in the shot put ad 123-10 in the discus.
