Future Stars: Taylor Cox Has Quickly Made A Huge Impact

Being overshadowed and somewhat overlooked happens to lots of young athletes when they first arrive on the high school level, especially when they have teammates who have already established themselves as big stars.

But after what Taylor Cox has accomplished so far in her rookie season at Union Catholic, it's time to forget about all that under the radar stuff, and realize that this ultra-talented freshman is no longer a future star. She is a star right now!

As a member of the powerhouse Union Catholic squad that's loaded with talent, Cox
has quickly made her presence felt as she's rocketed up near the very top of the state rankings in both the 55-meter hurdles, the 55m dash, and the 200m dash.

Cox has had several impressive performances this season, but it was her double at the Purple Champions Invitational at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the New York Armory on Feb. 12 that caused jaws to drop.

Check out these numbers!!!

At the Purple Champions Invit. placed second in the hurdles in 8.22, which ranks her No. 2 in the state behind teammate Ajanae Thompson (8.14), and she placed third in the 55 dash in 7.20, which has her tied for No. 3 in the state.

Cox followed that up at the North Shore Pre-National Invitational on Feb. 18 at the NY Armory by winning the 200 in 25.08, which ranks her No. 3 in the state this season. Just to be clear-Cox's rankings that were just referenced aren't freshman state rankings. Those are the overall state rankings!

For a freshman to be ranked in the top three in three different events in the entire state is just incredible!!!

Cox will be back in action with her heavily favored Union Catholic squad at this Friday's Non-Public A State Championships at the Bennett Center in Toms River.

NJ MileSplit's "Future Stars'' series will feature a different freshman each week throughout the season.
