NJ's Joe Dragon Joins The Sub 4 Mile Club

The fast times just keep on coming!

This time, it was Joe Dragon's turn to drop a bomb!!!

A day after three Jersey guys went under four minutes in the mile, Dragon, a 2016 graduate of High Point High, joined the Jersey Sub 4 party on Sunday when he stopped the clock at 3:59.19 at the Terrier Classic at Boston University.

Dragon, a senior at Syracuse who was competing unattached (,he has outdoor eligibility remaining), won the second heat when he edged teammate Nathan Henderson (3:59.43) as the duo finished eighth and ninth overall in the event, respectively. They were the fourth and fifth finishers among collegians in a field of 147 runners.

Dragon is the fourth NJ high school graduate to go under 4 this weekend, Sean Dolan and Liam Murphy of Villanova, and Ray Sellaro of UPenn did it in Saturday at Penn State.

The 3:59.19 by Dragon is a massive PR. His previous best mile came when he ran 4:14.57 in January of 2017!!!

Dragon had to close fast to get under the magical Sub 4 barrier. Check out these splits. Dragon went 32.67, 1:03.01, 1:33.61, 2:05.57, 2:23.29, 3:02.99, and 3:31.30. So that means he ran the final half mile in 1:55.62, and the last quarter in 56.20. That's moving!!!!

Here's the updated NJ list of Sub 4 Milers with their mile PR, high school they attended, and where and when they ran their PR. Most of the PR's listed below came indoors (27 of the 32). The newest members of the Sub 4 Club, Dragon, Sellaro and Murphy, are listed in bold.
