When the news spread on Wednesday that the NJSIAA had presented a proposal to eliminate the Tournament of Champions, several track and field and cross-country coaches around the state wondered if it would affect their sport.
Have no fear, everyone. According to Al Stumpf, an Assistant Director for the NJSIAA who oversees XC and outdoor track and field, the Meet of Champions in track and field and cross-country are not part of this proposal, which was made to the NJSIAA's Executive Committee during Wednesday's monthly meeting in Robbinsville.
"Today's proposal was for the Tournament of Champions in team sports,'' Stumpf wrote in an email. "Cross Country and track and field were not one of the team sports listed because it is a Meet of Champions and not a T of C.''
The NJSIAA offers T of C's in boys and girls tennis, boys and girls basketball, girls volleyball, boys and girls lacrosse, field hockey, boys and girls bowling, and softball.''
Take a deep breath everyone!! The XC and T&F Meet of Champions are safe, thank goodness!
