Caroline Mehlhorn of Montgomery, one of the state's top distance runners, has announced her college choice.
The winner is the University of Colorado!!
Mehlhorn has put together a sensational resume during her high school career.
On the trails, Mehlhorn finished second at the 2019 Meet of Champions in 18:19, her personal best at Holmdel Park, has won three straight Central Jersey, Group 4 titles, finished first at the 2020 Skyland Conference Championships, won the Somerset County title earlier this month, and ran a personal best 17:48.28 at the 2020 RunningLane Championships.
Mehlhorn's track stats are just as impressive.
Last spring, she ran a PR of 10:54.44 in the 3,200m when she finished sixth at the Meet of Champions, and she ran a PR of 4:56.52 in the 1,600m. Mehlhorn has captured six sectional titles on the track (indoors and outdoors combined), three in the 1,600 and three in the 3,200.
Mehlhorn said she knew right away that Colorado was the right fit for her.
"I verbally committed after taking visits to Duke, Northwestern, Wake Forest, and Colorado,'' said Mehlhorn. "I took an unofficial visit at Colorado last summer, and went back this fall to meet the team, and get a feel for life on campus during my official visit. I immediately fell in love with everything about the school.''
Mehlhorn said the team and the coaches at Colorado are exactly what she was looking for.
"The coaches are top notch, and the team is filled with the most inspiring and successful athletes who I am so honored to join,'' said Mehlhorn. "Everything the coaches plan has a detailed purpose and I can tell the girls respond really well to the training. Not to mention, this program is filled with the nicest people I have ever met. I have also always loved hiking and trail running, so this was a definitely a perfect fit for me, especially with all of the breathtaking views in Colorado! Overall, I am ecstatic to join the Buffalos and I can't wait to see how fast I can become through this program, and chase my lifelong dreams. Go Buffs!''
