Liam Murphy, Jack Jennings, and Austin Gabay all battled their hearts out to make this one of the best races of Sunday's NJSIAA Meet of Champions.
After trading moves throughout Gabay made a final surge heading into the bell to take the lead, Murphy fought back over the back stretch to answer and in doing so opened the door for a late kick from Jennings. For a moment it looked like Jennings' momentum was going to carry him to victory but at the last second Murphy found an extra gear to secure a win by .03 seconds running US#6 8:58.16 to Jennings' 8:58.19! And this was after Murphy competed in a the 1600m earlier that day!
Gabay running third clocked at 9:00.27 now ranked US#9 on the season.
These indoor Meet of Champions titles don't come easy, last year Murphy had to battle the then defending Champ Devin Hart to the line where Murphy also edged out the win running an 8:54.22 just ahead of Hart's 8:54.45.
