Two years ago there was a big overhaul with the advancement procedure to the outdoor Meet of Champions, that style format has now come over to the indoor Championships.
Automatic Qualifiers Each Event
The top 3 finishers in each event from each Group will automatically advance. With the six Groups this makes up 18 athletes for each event at the Meet of Champions.
Wild Card Qualifiers Each Event
After all meets have completed every Group will be combined, the top 12 performances which haven't already automatically advanced in their Group will advance as wild cards in each event.
With the 12 wild cards added to the 18 automatic qualifiers above this brings us up to 30 athletes or relays per event if all spots are filled.

Showcase Events
These are events that aren't held at the Group Championships and will only field 24 athletes or relay squads per event. They are based on the top 24 entrants in the 4x800m, 200m, long jump, and triple jump. We have an article with a full explanation of the Showcase events and how to enter them here.
