Ocean City Dominates Cape May County Champs

Full Results

For the fifth straight year Ocean City has swept the Cape May County Championships and this year they almost collected two perfect scores while doing it. Both individual Ocean City champions also defended their titles from last year making it a clean sweep of all four county titles.

The boys swept the top six finishers and their seventh runner finished eighth overall. With their 15 points the team won the meet by 49 over second place Lower Cape May Regional. Even more amazing was the top five compression which only took four seconds and an average of 16:37.

They were led by Anthony Conte at 16:35, who made it two straight individual titles. This was his first win of the season and fourth top ten finish.

On the girls side Ocean City was just one point off a perfect score with 16 points. Casey McLees led the way with a 19:02 performance defending her 2018 title run, her third top ten finish on the season. The team also won their tenth straight school title at this Championship, the last non-Ocean City winner being Wildwood Catholic all the way back in 2009.

The athlete that broke up the perfect score in the girls race? Middle Township's freshman standout Sofia Jurusz in fifth at 20:26. She was fourth this last Saturday in the Division 1 race at the South Jersey Open. Her squad finished second overall with 69 points.

For Ocean City this all comes just a week after the team's trip to run in the Disney Cross Country Classic was almost lost to misfortune before an act of kindness allowed them to travel down to Florida and compete. A special season so far for this school.
