Dennisha Page came into Friday's State Group 3 Championships looking for her first state outdoor title.
She got more than that as the senior at Woodrow Wilson won both the 100-meter dash in 12.07 and the 400 in 55.66. She also placed fourth in the long jump with a PR of 18-3.
Right after her double gold perfomance, Page wasted no time talking about a much bigger goal she has.
"I want to win all three sprints at the Meet of Champions, the 100, 200, and 400,'' said the Syracuse-bound Page, who is favored to win the Group 3 200 on Saturday. "It's my senior year and I wanted to make my mark at this meet, and do something that will make everyone remember me.''
If Page pulls off the 100, 200, 400 at the M of C next Saturday at Northern Burlington, she would join Olivia Baker of Columba as the only athletes (boy or girl) to complete that hat trick at the same M of C. Baker won the 100, 200, 400 and ran on the winning 4x400 as a junior at the 2013 M of C.
"I really feel that I can do it,'' said the Syracuse-bound Page, second in the 1000 and third in the 200 at the M of C last year. "It's been a goal of mine all season.''
Page certainly has the numbers to back up her talk.
She is NJ#1 in the 100 (11.68), NJ#1 in the 200 (24.17) and NJ#3 in the 400 (54.41).
Page is just the fifth girl in state history to run under 11.70 and under 55.00. She joined joined Regina Trotter of Weequahic, Shavon Greaves of Lakewood, English Gardner of Eastern, and Olivia Baker of Columbia as the only girls in NJ history to do that.
"It's been a great season, and all the times and victories are great, but now it's time to finish it off at the Meet of Champions, with a big performance,''' said Page.
