Rahway Throwers Accomplish Rare Feat at Sectionals

Watch the NJSIAA Meet of Champions LIVE on MileSplit

We'll also be recording races at Group Championships for viewing after the meets.

One of the most impressive performances at the NJSIAA Sectional Championships this past weekend went unnoticed by just about everyone that poured over the results.

In fact, it didn't even hit Rahway head coach Leon Bunion until someone pointed out to him on Sunday what his shot putters had accomplished.

What Rahway throwers Joshua BarthelusTahlee BaileyQualil Lumpkins Kailah TurnerSahni Taylor, and Story Young did at its sectional championship meet in the shot put is a a very rare feat.

All six throwers of Rahway's throwers (3 boys and 3 girls) earned medals in the shot put by placing in the top six at the Central Jersey, Group 2 Championships at Jackson Liberty High School. So that means all six advanced to the State Group 2 Championships.

THAT'S RIGHT- RAHWAY WENT SIX FOR SIX IN THE SHOT PUT!!!!

Since the NJSIAA only allows three entries per event per team, you can't top what Rahway did!! And because only top six finishers in each event advanced, Rahway grabbed half of the available qualifying spots in both the boys and girls shot put competitions.

The Willingboro high hurdlers also went six for six in Central Jersey, Group 1!!!

That's just incredible!!!

How did Rahway's "Bomb Squad''  do it?

For the Rahway boys, senior Barthelus was third with a PR of 49-2.75, Bailey, a junior ,finished fourth with a 47-2, and Lumpkins, a junior,  placed fifth with a PR of 46-3.5.

In the girls shot put, Rahway senior Turner placed second with a 35-3.75, senior Taylor was fifth with an outdoor PR of 34-8, and junior Young finished sixth with a 34-0.5.

Congrats to Rahway's throwers and to Rahway throwing coach Lashelle Bunion, the sister of head coach Leon Bunion, on an remarkable achievement!!!
